Childish Gambino finally released his long awaited album, Awaken, My Love and it has a funky sound to it. Awaken My Love can’t be labeled as a rap album but more of a rock album based in the 80s or 70s. With Awaken, My Love, Childish Gambino raises his art and puts music in a different realm for this time period.
Stand out song are “Zombies”, “Boogieman”, “Riot” and “Stand Tall”. Honestly there are more than these four but I want to keep it brief.
“Zombies” speaks of the leeches that you find once you obtain fame and fortune. Zombies also speaks on people that want to feed off of your ideas as well. Kari Faux is featured on the song and gives a certain vibe that matches the feel of the song.
“Riot” is a movement of betterment. Childish Gambino looks out at the world and sees things he does not like. On his second verse he speaks about oppressors and a state of mind of being a minority. In “Riot” Gambino says a lot without pointing fingers or directly blaming a person or entity, but you can get a feel of what direction he wants to go.
“Stand Tall” is a song for those moments were defeat has you by the neck and has thrown you to and fro. Childish Gambino speaks on wise words that was given to him by his father and mother. Those words seem to be engraved deep within him. Part 2 of this song is amazing also.
Awaken, My Love is a clean listen from beginning to end, only song I skip is “Redbone”, and that is for personal reasons that I won’t speak on but will put someone on blast about it. I like this album, good beats, great material defiantly takes Childish Gambino as an artist to a place with no limits. I have to give this album 4.5 TAU symbols out of 5. Awaken My Love is good for driving around the city or having fun with friends but it should be mentioned that this album does seem to have a theme and touch on current events.
