On November 1, 1984, The Smiths released their second album called Hatful of Hollows. The albums translates to a hat full of emptiness in a way. The Smiths career is responsible for many other artist in many genres. Their style of music and the vocals of Morrissey along with his lyrics are something that has been etched into history.

Hatful Of Hollows has songs like “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” and “This Night Has Opened My Eyes” that are rememberable. “This Night Has Opened My Eyes” paints a picture of a young immature couple not ready to have a baby and make a decision to deal with it. Morrissey details in the story is almost as if he is telling you one on one what had happen. He sets the setting, the problem and the path that occurred. Once I heard this song I immediately fell in love with it. The song itself is very attention getting. Once the song starts it is in unison of Morrissey voice.

“Heavens Knows I’m Miserable Now” is a song that anyone can relate to because who wants to work for the man. Getting a job sucks having to deal with it forever, or seeing a couple that is happy and in love and you decide to be bitter because you lost the love of you life. “Heavens Knows I’m Miserable Now” is a funny satire song. It is a very real song and relate able. Can be a little depressing honestly.

There are many songs on Hatful Of Hollows that are likeable. I tend to play this album and listen to it more than three times in a row. From what I understand is this is a collection of the songs that couldn’t fit on the first album. With that being said I am going to have to listen to the Smiths first album.
